hemlock hollyhock the third

a fun and playful young man, Hemlock Hollyhock Hawthorn Hamhock Hemsworth the Third (a mostly-fake name that he adds onto every time someone annoying asks who he is) loves to spend his days doing important things like reading, "not caring," "not worrying," and most importantly of all, "not givin' a rat's ass." he is carefree to a fault, because if he cares too much, then something bad will happen. that's what he thinks. and really, what's the point of getting too involved anyways? all things fade. all things disappear. nothing lasts! so enjoy things while they come, deal with things in the here and now. he can be a little irritable, especially when being doubted or questioned. he has utmost faith in himself, and thinks everyone else should too.

hemlock was born to a normal human couple, in a normal human village, where everyone is normal human people. so the conclusion to be drawn there is that hemlock is also a normal human. the feathers sprouting from his head among his hair mean nothing, he can assure you of that. the fact that sometimes he can sprout wings from his back - anyone can do that. it's normal. however, it is a source of conflict for his family, with each other and with the others in the village. accusations flying every which way, insults and slurs hurled at each other, but mostly at hemlock himself. it comes to a point when his mother snaps, attacking him, sending him running for his life. eventually, he happens upon a shepherd and his flock of sheep, who sees hemlock in a hellishly bad way, and immediately takes the boy home to recuperate. hemlock stays for a while, helping tend to the sheep and learning how to mend his own clothes, before deciding to set off as an adventurer.

• careless - mostly with his own health, knowing that he's resiliant and will always bounce back, but if he can get away with cutting corners, he will
• funny - he may have a dry sense of humour, but goodness, is he ever silly about it!
• clever - he's a quick thinker, always ready with some kind of quip or plan
• frugal - due to living on the run for many years, he's gotten quite good at managing his finances
• tsundere - sorry, there's not really a better word for this; he pretends like he is above caring for others, like it doesn't matter to him, since nothing matters, but it could not be further from the truth... he goes behind peoples' backs to secretly help them all the time... what a goober!

ii. design notes

• he has feathers growing out of his hair; his hairstyle varies, but he general has a few smaller braids, along with a portion of it tied back
• his right eye is intact, but the skin around it is scarred heavily so it's hard to keep it open
• he wears a lot of layers, mostly orange, black, and white
• his posture and movements are a bit exaggerated, almost theatric
• he does limp a bit when walking, due to some lingering damage on his right side

• he acts like a brat, but it's just that - an act, because it's funny

• he's very good at magic tricks, but gets a bit shy about it
• he can speak a lot of languages, but likes to pretend he doesn't so that he can surprise people with how much he knows
• he hates hot water, but he would, in his own words, "rather be deader than a doorknob" than take a cold bath or shower
