miwa kanae

a friendly knight that everyone looks up to, kana is fun, bright and bold. she's somewhat of a big sister figure to all the knights, even those older than her, and even moreso to all the children in the city. she loves training, sports, running - any kind of physical activity! people often compare her to a cloudless blue sky: untroubled by clouds, clear in motive, soothing in vibe. she is of course more complicated than that in her heart, but she doesn't let it show very often. to bring others down with her own petty burdens would bring herself down further... which isn't true, that's not how friendship works! but that's how she feels, and it's hard to snap her out of it.

her best friend, rowan, has been going through some hard times lately, and kana does not know how to support her properly. in fact, that is something kana has long struggled with - not knowing how to support people with their own personal problems, much as she wants to. all she can offer is a few jokes and a hug, some heartfelt words of "come calling if you need to, please," but anything more than that and she's stumped... she's a quick thinker though; despite how she acts, she's faster on her brain than her feet. kana, though, purposefully plays up her goofiness to get a smile out of those around her. it's the very least of what she can do, she figures.

i. personality

• clever - she's quick to notice changes in attitudes or behaviours, as well as quick to come up with ideas and plans of her own, though... sometimes those ideas are a little off-kilter
• silly - she's got a good and strong sense of humour, but even when she's not playing the fool, she's still quite the fun and casual person
• loving - kana is very easily attached to those around her, to the point where one might wonder if she's secretly very lonely; that would be true, but she also does genuinely enjoy caring for and spending time with others
• brave - she's never one to back down from a challenge, often times taking other peoples' problems head on when they show anxiety about those problems themselves
• insecure - in her own mind she feels small, hollow, almost empty, and overcompensates a bit with helping others or cheering them up, in hopes that no one else will see what she sees in herself

ii. design notes

• she is rather lanky with a little bit of a belly and a nearly-flat chest, but has fairly muscular arms and legs
• she has short but thick eyebrows, prominent lower eyelashes, and gold eyes with light blue centers
• she likes painting her nails, but isn't very good at keeping her hand steady so they're quite uneven!
• outside of her knight uniform, she likes wearing sporty clothes in bright colours, but nothing too revealing
• she has sharp little fangs, usually stylized as just one showing when she smiles, but they are on both sides and on both top and bottom of her mouth

iv. trivia

• she is autistic and has adhd
• her dislike of competition is not that she's scared of her own loss; she worries that others won't play fair or might hurt each other in their attempt to win
• she is gluten intolerant
• she has a mild fear of water, which is a bit of a shit hand to be dealt if you live near a large body of water like she does
• she uses a lance when she needs to have a weapon, but she prefers not fighting at all
