komugi

an explorer of ruins who likes to collect things on his journeys. has the ability to understand any language, and be understood by anyone no matter which language he speaks in - therein lies the issue, however, of understanding what is trying to be said.

mugi is a friendly and warm person, but keeps everyone at arm's length. often times in the past, when people have found out about his ability and his long-lived life, they want to try to get him to learn some kind of ancient secrets or gossip from ages past. that, or use him to listen in on people he hasn't even met. suffice to say, he hates that, and has no interest in any of it at all. people trying to use him through all the years has worn him down, but he still tries to keep an open mind.

mugi and his siblings were made by an alchemist centuries ago, a strange person who was born with characteristics unlike any beastkin before them. they wanted a family, one with similar features, one where they wouldn't be exiled for their strangeness, and so they set out to make one. literally, making them with their own two hands out of alchemical reagents and... parts... that they had gathered. eventually, this cold parental figure passed on, but the siblings never did. they lived onwards, into the distant future...

i. personality

• friendly - there's almost nothing mugi loves more than chatting with people over a beer, making new acquaintances and catching up with old ones
• communicative - he's honest and open, and even if he has little to say, he's always responsive and considerate
• detached - he doesn't like to get close to people, thinking that the hassle of explaining his situation isn't worth the trouble
• mediatory - he's very skilled at helping people talk through arguments and fights, almost like he's even able to understand "every language" to the extent of understanding every person's own internal language...
• conflicted - he feels like a lot of people see him as a tool, and he's not sure if he should settle and accept that treatment, or rebel against it and work at feeling like a person again

ii. design notes

• he is rather bulky, and has had top surgery, though he has large pecs
• he is also pretty hairy, and his hair is thick and fluffy
• he always keeps his nails painted to some extent; sometimes it chips off, but there's always even a little bit
• he has lots of piercings and likes wearing jewelry, but nothing too dangly... it could get in the way while climbing, after all
• aside from accessories, he mostly wears very plain, practical clothes; no patterns, muted earthy colours, sturdy fabrics

iv. trivia

• he has a bit of a strained relationship with his sense of self and his sense of reality; he's relatively at peace with it all, but there are days when it weighs on him deeply
• he doesn't feel temperatures as much as others; an extremely cold place wouldn't bother mugi very much at all
• he has a very strong immune system, and is able to safely digest a great number of things that would normally make a person sick or intoxicated
• he tends to get attacked by birds for no discernable reason
• he has stiff joints, so he tries to stretch a lot

v. inventory

	a small handheld radio. due to mugi's strange antenna-like aura, it gets signal even at the extremes of mountains and trenches.

	a small pocket knife that has attachments for things like a screwdriver, a can opener, and a file. you should never leave home without one.
