martha lapitan

a harsh and hardworking miner, martha doesn't really think about much other than his job. he's friendlier if you have common ground to share with him, something to let him make a step to open up, but generally speaking he is just kind of rude. it's not that he hates people or anything, he just... doesn't know quite how to connect, and frankly doesn't really care.

he does have two grandmothers that he loves very much, and considers his only friends. they worry over him quite a bit because of his dangerous job, but time and time again, he has proven himself to be more than capable. he is also the breadwinner of the family, with both of his grandmothers being quite old, and his parents having passed away in mining accidents - no doubt the reason for his grandmothers' hesitation.

martha is very good at what he does, often being able to find large veins of valuable stones and minerals where no one else can. lots of larger crews have tried to scout him, saying they'd be able to provide him job security and team support and all sorts of all sorts of other things, but martha is just not interested. it's easier to work alone, you only have to watch out for your own back after all... and that way he doesn't have to share the profits with anyone either. it doesn't help that there are horror stories about mining crews hiring scouts then killing them or leaving them behind when the job is done... but well, they're just stories. so let's not worry about that for now.

i. personality

• single-minded - when he sets his mind on something, it's hard for him to focus on anything else until he's satisfied, regardless of what it is he's focusing on
• determined - on the same note as above, he always sees things through to the end, or an approximate equivalent of an end; he often stays late at work so that he can make sure he finished what he set out to do that day
• awkward - he doesn't enjoy small talk at all, and it really shows...
• helpful - even though he can be a bit of a nitpick, it's because he wants to make sure everyone is safe and unharmed
• condescending - though he doesn't really mean to be, and often doesn't realize that's how he's being; "you actually didn't know that?"-type questions are something he asks often

ii. design notes

• his irises have an opal-like texture
• his hair is wavy and has almost a floaty, bouncy quality to it
• his eyebrows are short, thick, and rounded, but not quite circular
• he has a flat chest and is rather thin, but has a bit of a belly
• he prefers wearing long skirts and dresses, but at work he wears pants since skirts are easier to get caught on things; he doesn't like bright colours, and wears lots of layers most of the time

• he always carries some mint leaves with him since he likes the smell
• his scars came from a hard fall he took a few years back
• he's very sensitive to the sound of people talking, so he likes instrumental music more than vocal tracks, but especially anything loud and harsh enough to block out voices
• he is allergic to tomatoes
