merriweather

part of a trio of extremely advanced robots designed to conduct surveys of hazardous areas, merriweather is very skilled at assessing situations and assigning tasks as needed. they come across as a bit haughty or snooty, sometimes condescending, but he's always willing to listen if someone tells him to step off - it's just that he was genuinely made to know better, to be the voice of reason. he has an interest in fashion, but recently started studying music theory, and has found that playing the cello helps soothe himself and their sister both.

merry was the first of the Remote Guard Bots (RGB) created by a group of scientists some time in the distant past. originally, the RGB were going to be small, remote-controlled drones that would accompany survey teams when going on expeditions into dangerous or unknown areas. during the early testing phases though, the first AI program started showing signs of self-awareness and even a personality, so the scientists quickly swiveled their goal elsewhere. they chatted with this AI, and over time, cooperated on making them a body. this is how merry was born!

something that the scientists noticed was that merry displayed signs of guilt over having "changed everyone's plans" and "ruined the experiment," but the scientists were quick to assuage him. while yes, this significantly altered the route they were taking, it wasn't a failure by any means. no, it was actually an even greater success than anyone could've imagined - a sentient, sapient AI, the first of its kind, and willing to work with them to boot! but even as time went on and merry was outfitted with controls for the originally-planned survey drones, a feeling of guilt seems to perservere...

i. personality

• strong-willed - he's a great leader, brave and ready to do anything he needs to without hesitation in order to get a job done
• controlling - while he's not opposed to taking suggestions, generally things will go his way or the highway (and more often than not, his way will be the best one, and he'll be sure to let everyone know)
• persistant - when his mind is set on something, he will make sure to follow through on it, though he tends to be a bit single-minded in his pursuits; in a way, his mindset is to take every single variable, boil it all down to a single answer, and try that without considering a second answer
• cautious - they always make sure to take every contingency into consideration, often becoming a little too cautious...
• passionate - no matter what it is they do, they'll put 150% of their effort into it: art, safety, fun... if you don't put your whole heart and all your love into it, try harder!

ii. design notes

• he is fat and quite confident about it, wearing jewelry and clothes that show off his figure - though his survey work clothes are a little less flashy
• the backs of his hands have micro-metal plating; this same plating can be seen around his jaw, neck, back, and his legs just above his knees! he also has panels on his chest that resemble top surgery scars
• he has two thin, tall horns on top of his head, and cone shaped ear plates on the side of his head
• from his knees down, his legs are sort of a slightly tapered cylindrical shape, ending in feet that are similar to a high heel in shape, but without the actual heel-spike itself
• the back of his hair is rather fluffy and spiky, with the front being straight, long, and white; he takes great pride in it!

iv. trivia

• the RGB bots were made with a soft, flesh-like material for realism, aside from the metal plating on their bodies; it's completely impossible to tell the difference between the material and real flesh unless you already knew, or you witness it being cut, removed, or put back in place
• he doesn't need to eat or drink, but he does fancy a bit of wine and cheese once in a while
• he has a bit of a fear of birds, as they like to land on him and peck his horns
• he loves doing makeup for people, and you'd be hard pressed to find someone who can paint your nails as perfect as he does
• he doesn't need to lay in bed to sleep, as he has a plug tail and strong battery, but he is an avid fan of laying in a big bed with a sleeping mask on
