nell fields

nell is an innovator, a genius of her generation, a pioneer for the ages... she invented streaming on teres, though not as you or i would really know it. she has her games hooked up to a projector at the local theater, and plays things for the nearby kids a few times a week. nell loves art and entertainment, passionate about all avenues of self-expression, but these are the ones she finds herself drawn to most. she's confident but not smug, and never acts as a poor sport to anyone she plays with. a great role model for the neighbourhood kids, certainly.

as a child, nell did not have many friends. there weren't a lot of kids her age, being born in a kind of in-between generation between the really young children and the ones that were practically adults already. eventually, with the coming and going of various families, more children nell's age did show up, but getting along with them is a different story. she was lonely, irritable from having felt so disconnected from those around her - like standing face to face with someone through a window, but not hearing what each other said. she got in a lot of fights, doing and saying things she regrets to this day, lamenting how no one was really there for her. her parents were busy all the time, and she had no siblings...

when she was about 16, she tucked herself into the corner of a park and cried her heart out, silently but painfully, but was found by a young child with good ears. the child squeezed in next to her without even asking, and put their little device in nell's hands. they asked if she knew how to play, and she had no idea what they were talking about. video games were quite new to her, but it came easily; she solved the level the child was stuck on, and they cheered her on, asking her to do the next one too. this started nell's passion for gaming, for gently showing kids that there are people who can help, even in a small and funny way.

i. personality

• creative - she can come up with some pretty interesting ideas, both in artistic endeavours and in problem solving situations
• patient - she considers this her biggest strength; whether it's solving a puzzle in a game or helping a frustrated kid, nell will always meet a challenge on its own terms and give it the time it deserves
• assertive - she's got quite the tough streak, and can easily stand up for anyone who needs it
• helpful - even in situations that don't pertain to her immediate interests, she loves to lend a hand wherever she can
• melancholic - she sometimes still finds herself lost in thoughts of loneliness and near-isolation, a habit from a few years back

• she is missing a chunk of her left ear (your right when looking at her), from a small fight she got in as a child
• she has a very small tail, but it's usually covered by her clothes
• she has a round face and bright, cheery eyes
• she usually wears slightly oversized clothes, ones with darker base colours and bright accents
• she has a flat chest and is kind of rectangular in build

• she sometimes acts like an old lady to get a laugh out of whoever she's talking to; usually she complains about her back or her white hair
• she is autistic!
• she likes to play with her hair when she's thinking or looking for something to do
• she can play the recorder super well but is kind of shy about it - "isn't that like, a baby instrument? for babies?!"
