in the north eastern regions of teres, there's been a long chain of people coming down with horrible and never-before-seen curse symptoms, with many of them dying quite soon after the signs first show. rarely, entire families will be affected, but generally it will just be one person at a time; though, some families have reported that a family member showed signs, and immediately disappeared. no one has been able to pinpoint what is causing this epidemic, though once in a while, one of these cursed people will resurface far away from their home, having a muddled sense of self and even further scrambled memories.
this is what happened to nevermore, some 25 years ago.
nevermore, who cannot remember her original name, her family, her hometown, anything... woke up in the care of a kind family after having been found unconscious on the edge of town. with an aching body and throbbing pain in his skull, he thanked them for saving him, did what he could to pay them back, and asked if they knew who he was, but alas, they did not. so, she set out, journeying as carefully as she could through the land to try and pick up pieces of who she was - though, this proved difficult. nevermore was never a very public or open person to begin with, and no one in the small town had ever seen him before... but, just by chance, she overheard something about the identity-wiping curses that have struck all around the area in recent days, and started sniffing out that trail instead, hoping that might lead her to some kind of discovery...
it's been slow going, as evidenced by how long he's been on the road, but recently, he's heard tell of someone else showing very similar symptoms to him in a nearby town, so... it might, just maybe, be worth checking out, hm?
table of contents
i. personality
- stern - he takes a no-nonsense approach to most things that he comes across, feeling strongly that all things deserve respect and dignity no matter how "small" or "ridiculous" they may be
- gentle - pairing with her view on respect, she feels that most things deserve kindness and patience too; she's not a pushover though, and knows when to take a stand
- distant - being that he's been wandering around his region of teres for around 25 years, he's lost interest in forming deep connections with people; he'll just be gone in the next few days, anyways
- ditzy - despite how she seems to come across to strangers, all calm and put-together, she can be quite the space-case, often dropping things or completely missing social cues, often making strange little laughs or noises when she realizes what happened
- brave - it takes a strong, courageous heart to wander those cold and foggy lands alone, in hiding, especially with the mysterious deaths as of late...
ii. design notes
- she is a little bit stocky and has a medium-ish sized chest (combination of breasts and pecs)
- his right eye (your left side when viewing him) is pale gray, while his left is black
- she often has stubble on her face, since it's hard to shave when out in the middle of nowhere
- he wears a lot of layers, usually all black or dark colours; very rarely does he wear anything brighter than a mid-tone gray
- her right leg is covered in curse-induced scarring; later on, she receives a prosthetic that she's quite happy with
iii. motifs
- ravens
- masks
- chains
- fog
- footprints
iv. trivia
- he is neurodivergent (unspecified) and has depression
- she often communicates through sign language, since she doesn't really like to speak, and also out of a worry that her voice will give away her identity
- along with the reasons above, he is slightly hard of hearing in both ears, so signing is more comfortable
- she is mildly allergic to dairy and very allergic to dogs
- he's quite good at drawing, but gets a little embarrassed showing other people
