niel

niel was an unfortunate victim of the great mage yue, not one that they intended to kill, but someone who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. he has no memory of his life before he was killed, and it weighs on him so, so heavily. he tries to live a carefree life, sleeping in trees and eating anything he wants during the day, but when night falls he feels a strange pull towards the tunnels under his city... where there might, just by chance, be a hint of his former life.

niel has made a bit of a reputation for themself, having been around for many, many years at this point, but only on the periphery of everyday life. there are little tales of a lanky, tall ghost that wanders the streets at night, with who-knows-what in mind for anyone they catch...! well, part of that is true. niel does prefer to walk around when it's dark out, but... catching people? for what? he just wants to stretch his legs a bit! and it's not like he never walks around during the day... but even that has caused people to speculate and spread stories. the strange person who shows up, buys a few fresh fruits, then disappears into the trees for a few days... gosh. who could that even be?!

and then of course, there are the times where people have woken up to find niel sleeping in their attic or basement or what-have-you... it's just kind of an accepted part of life in town, really, and it has been for countless years.

i. personality

• lackadaisical - those who know niel can attest to his "devil may care" attitude; nothing seems to bother them ever, but nothing seems to excite them either
• curious - as someone who has no memories of their own life, he wants to learn as much as he can about the world around him... though, he doesn't care too much about the small things
• harsh - niel doesn't talk to others much, but when they do, they can be blunt to the point of being mean... they don't really get the act of sugarcoating, or even being polite, really
• hollow - it's hard to put into words, isn't it? the pervasive feeling of no-feeling, the cold and windy landscape inside your chest, the ever-gnawing quest for more- no, not more, just something that would make you feel anything...
• bitter - and for one thing, why does niel have to suffer this empty existence with no clue who they are all because they were caught in the path of a killer? how is that fair?

ii. design notes

• their skin is pale and ashy gray, with their limbs and tail darkening into teal-black; the back of their wing-shaped ears is this same colour
• they have a nasty slouch, and tend to move around with almost cat-like movements
• they have a flat chest and are lanky but muscular
• they seem to exclusively own tanktops and baggy pants; where they keep these clothes is unknown
• they have very muted expressions, generally with their eyes only half-open

iii. motifs

• citrus fruits
• ink drops in water
• smiley faces
• dark tunnels
• eyes in the dark

iv. trivia

• they don't live anywhere specific in the town, just sort of anywhere that they'll be allowed some privacy for a while
• they're not too interested in romance or anything, but they have been known to eavesdrop and join in on conversations about boys~
• their pockets are seemingly endless... there's always some sort of trinket pile hidden in there
• they don't have a job, and don't have much to offer for trades, but somehow he always has an abundance of coins...
• they have a bit of a lisp!
