in life, petrichor was a confident and playful person, always knowing exactly what to say to get people's attention and loyalty. they wouldn't... misuse this talent per se, but they were definitely a little more than self-serving. their goals were always noble in the end, but the methods left a bit to be desired. but... really, when it's benefitting the little guys, the businesses that are struggling, the families that can't make ends meet, talking their way into someone else's pockets is the easiest thing in the world. setting themself up as a networker of sorts, someone who can connect rich idiots to people in need of money, be it merchants or mercenaries, they managed pretty well. of course though, petrichor did make sure to always keep some money or goods aside for themself, payment for the job and such.
eventually, their robin hood act had gotten a little too far out of hand, and they got the attention of some very unsavory people. the kind of unsavory people who have enough money to hire an assassin, y'know? the very bad kind of people who are so dedicated to their money that they would be willing to kill anyone who gets in the way... of their money... ridiculous, isn't it? they aren't even using it! these are the thoughts that ran through petrichor's head as they watched their body hit the ground. despite how sneaky they were, they had no self defense skills at all, really. this enraged them though, naturally. anyone would be mad, and that anger, that feeling of "now i have unfinished business" is what let petrichor keep a tie to the world, what let them continue on in their own way. but... being a ghost and all, it would be hard to get revenge like this, wouldn't it?
and so, petrichor decided to start causing ghostly mischief in the hopes of catching the attention of anyone who could interact with them. eventually, one such person did come along: a bounty hunter by the name of clarion. ah, what luck! someone that petrichor can talk to, someone who can talk to them, someone who- oh, that's- right, that certainly is petrichor's mother.
table of contents
i. personality
- clever - petrichor is very, very good at figuring out the best ways to get through the cracks in peoples' defenses, what really makes them tick...
- calculating - ... and taking measure how exactly to use that knowledge to their own advantage
- selfish - their actions do help people in need, but they're really only invested in their own gain and their own well-being... or, they were, at least...
- brave - it takes a lot of courage to do all that sneaking around that they did, after all
- detached - they never get very close to anyone, to the point where they'd never consider anything they do an act of treachery; if you weren't close, then it's just business, isn't it?
ii. design notes
- they have no eyes under their bandage, but they keep their eyelids closed
- they always appear kind of hazy, almost torn- or unraveled-looking at the edges of their form, and like there's always a breeze of some sort whirling around them
- they're very thin, and have a flat chest
- they only have the one outfit, loose green pants and a loose purple high-collared shirt (though, you can add more detail if you want)
- their resting face is a slight smile, and they generally never emote much more than that; when their smile falls, something is very, very wrong
iii. motifs
- fog
- piers, docks
- ripples on water
- gold coins
- crossroads
iv. trivia
- they can hear things fine, but can't smell, taste, or feel
- they lost their eyes in death, but can vaguely sense their surroundings
- they were a horrible chef in life
- even though they like playing pranks themself, there's a difference to them about a prankster and a jokester - namely, one does things for a purpose, and the other does things on a whim, and that determines how much respect they get... to petrichor, at least
- they can pass through anything solid, but don't really like to. for them, it feels kind of gritty and sticky, and for any living thing they pass through, it feels like the internal sensation of having just drank something ice cold
